Mid-spring through mid-fall is the long window — typically March through November in Richland County. Hot mix needs ambient temperatures above about 50°F at the surface and ideally above 60°F for the best workability. Summer is peak season, but it's also when the plants run busiest, so booking ahead matters. We pave year-round when the weather cooperates, and we won't lay mix when it's about to rain or when the base is too wet.

For Columbia residential, asphalt usually wins on cost — it runs roughly 30 to 50 percent cheaper installed than concrete, and it can be repaired or resurfaced economically as it ages. Concrete lasts longer with less maintenance, but cracks in concrete are harder and more expensive to fix, and the upfront cost is significantly higher.
